Ranma 1/2 is a whacky love comedy by Rumiko Takahashi. Ranma 1/2 is the story of a young martial artist named Ranma Saotome, only son of martial artist Genma. The father takes his son on a training mission to improve their martial art techniques. Their mission lands them in Jusenkyo,China. As they quarrel and fight amongst the natural springs there , they both fall into a spring. The springs transform the unlucky person into whoever- or whatever drowned there last . The curse is upon both Saotomes and Genma is now a roly-poly non-speaking giant panda and Ranma becomes an incredibly proportioned female version of himself. From now on , a splash of cold water will transform them into the curse and a splash of hot water will bring them back to normal.
Genma brings Ranma to the Tendo School of Anything Goes Martial Arts to meet his betrothed , Akane Tendo daughter of Soun Tendo. Soun is Genma's long time friend and was promised that their two siblings would be married to each other.
The series involves a variety of mishaps amongst Ranma and Akane and all form of attacks on Ranma by numerous funny villians. Ranma's high school , Furinkan , is the backdrop of many scenarios. Ryoga is Ranma's childhood rival and that is where the fun begins.
